The 2011 MY 3 Series has now ceased production as a brand new model is to be launched early in 2012
The 328i and 335i models will lead production and launch in March 2012. The xDrive vehicles will follow shortly after.
Here’s what to expect:
Performance and Fuel Efficiency: The 328i will be equipped with the new BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder engine offering 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The initial 0-60mph time for the 328i is 5.7 seconds with the manual transmission (-0.6 sec versus outgoing model), 5.9 seconds with the automatic transmission (-1.0 sec versus outgoing model).
The 335i will continue to be equipped with the award winning BMW TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder engine offering 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque. The initial 0-60mph time for the 335i is 5.4 seconds with the manual transmission (same as the outgoing model) and the automatic transmission (-0.2 sec versus outgoing model).
Both models will come standard with a 6-speed manual transmission and an 8-speed automatic transmission available as an option. While fuel-economy figures are not finalised, we expect that our latest EfficientDynamics measures featuring BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, Auto Start/Stop, the use of lightweight materials and optimised aerodynamics (e.g. Air Curtains) as well as Brake Energy Regeneration and the optional 8-speed automatic transmission will all contribute to the car’s remarkable efficiency.
Enhanced Standard Equipment: To improve the value of the 3 Series we have made remarkable enhancements to the equipment profile versus the outgoing model. New standard equipment includes BMW iDrive with a 6.5” full color display and Dynamic Driving Control with ECO PRO. We have also added floor mats as standard as well as Bluetooth and iPod adapter.
Technology:Along with the regular packages and options, the new 3 Series will offer a unique set of innovative options, such as

Design:The new design of the front end was inspired by the Vision EfficientDynamics concept-car - with the headlights now extending up to the frame of the grille. The kidneys show a 3-dimensional design for the first time, enhancing the car’s broad stance even more. The wider track of the car (+ 1.46” front, + 1.85” rear) and two large air intakes underneath the headlights accentuate its athletic look.
Despite its moderate growth (+ 3.7” in length), the all new BMW 3 Series will offer much more interior room to its passenger than its predecessor. In fact, the improvement is such that the new 3 Series will offer better rear leg room and trunk capacity than the 5 Series E39, an all-time reference among BMW automobiles and a car that was 6” longer than the all-new 3 Series.
Introduction of Design Lines: Another first on the all-new 3 Series is the introduction of a new individualisation concept. The car will be available at launch with three optional equipment design packages called “Lines”: Sport, Luxury and Modern. Each Line gives the customer the opportunity to match the vehicle to their personal lifestyle and requirements. The three Lines feature exclusive interior and exterior aesthetic elements such as contrasting stitching and piping, special color themes for the interior, upgraded wheels as well as accents in the kidney grille and specific exhaust pipes.
Sport Line:Key exterior features: High-gloss black kidney grille slats and exhaust pipe tips, sport suspension, exclusive 18” wheels and front air dam design.
Key interior features: Sport seats, red stitching and piping and red contrasting trim accents.
Luxury Line:Key exterior features: Chromed kidney grille slats, exhaust pipe tips and window surrounds, exclusive 18” wheels and front air dam design.
Key interior features: Leather seats with distinctive seam pattern, chrome accents and wood trim.
Modern Line:Key exterior features: Matt chrome kidney grille slats and exhaust pipe tips, exclusive 18” wheels and front air dam design.
Key interior features: Leather seats with contrasting piping, light-colored dashboard and steering-wheel.
